Yah, Canon Inc. The Stephen Fry of cameras. Their bright red logo was splashed liberally around the hall and was in yo' face on every piece of literature being distributed. As to whether or not you will be disqualified from the World Press Photo contest if you don't use a Canon, there is no indication. Seems unlikely though. I doubt if, after getting that pulitzer-worthy shot of a Congo militiaman beheading a local villager, you look down in your bag and say "Oh, fudge... I forgot I had my Nikon out. I'll just strap on my EOS and ask him to do it again!"
The exhibition running at Millenaris Park in Buda was very good overall. Francesco Zizola's essay on desperate times in small Colombian towns was a standout, as was Stephen Morrison's excellent 3rd place entry of violence following elections in Kenya.
