I'm wondering if you have a recipe for that (DELICIOUS) goose broth. We finally found a story that carries 'goose' and ever since our trip to Budapest (circa 2002), we've been dreaming of that delcious matzo ball soup. Any suggestions?? Do you make it just like you'd make chicken soup, only using a goose??

Your coffeehouse sounds interesting. I always wanted to visit Vilnius and Riga, but never made it that far north.

The Harangvirag is not fancy by any means, but I thought its balance of price and quality is very good. There is another csukrászda that I keep meaning to go to about halfway up the Andrassy called Lukács. Expensive but the ambiance looks like it might be worth it.

As I mentioned, the Harangvirag is off the beaten path and is really a to-go kind of place, so here's a list of links to some other good ones too in case you can't get out to Harangvirag:
Thanks for the suggestion. I used to own a small Vilnius coffeehaus which served up traditional Austro-Hungarian tortes and pastries and coffees. Since then, baking them has just been a hobby, but I'm going to Budapest Aug 16th - 25th to find a baker who'd let me just observe them at their craft. I will try this bakery based on your recommendation.

I went to that bar in July '09 and had a nice time. Victor was the bartender that evening and he was a cool cat. Reasonably priced and cozy.
I spoke to some drunk who was highly entertaining and argumentative--especially when I told him that Thomas Edison bought the patent for the light bulb off a Toronto inventor. Hey, I love the USA too but they didn't invent everything.

hi sf, absolutely great blog. spend the better part of the last two hours on it. excellent reading. but why such hostility towards Austria...? anyhow, great job. continue keeping us informed. I also see such a potential in the creativity of the Hungarian people, I hope they can fulfill there own dreams and aspirations. They deserve to succeed.
